Students will use comparative language to describe two numbers and explain strategies used to solve addition and subtraction problems about animals that are endemic to Madagascar.

Students will ask open-ended questions and develop a plan for researching animals to determine the basic needs that are related to its characteristics, where it lives, how it moves, and what it eats.

Students will use problem-solving skills to create a tower that represents how the baobab “tree of life” can store an abundance of water to provide for the basic needs of animals and people in Madagascar.
